About
Atypical Guidance

Hello! I’m Gail and I’ve been working with atypical children (including my own) for nearly 25 years. I’ve worked as a teacher in private and public education since 1996; providing tutoring and guidance to students and their families. In 2017, I was certified to provide coaching to families just like yours.

OWNER, FOUNDERGail Ebenstein

My personal experience raising a son with Asperger’s syndrome taught me the strategies that have helped many children and parents succeed. With a personalized program, I can help you identify and uplift the positive attributes in your child.

My Motivation

Background Story

My son was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and struggled through school. He faced many challenges both academically and socially. To everyone’s surprise, he received two middle school awards for showing enormous kindness, understanding, and thoughtfulness toward all.

As a teacher, I had a student who couldn’t control his behavior. During class he would hurt other students without any regard for their feelings. His parents and I were able to create a structured plan based around undiscovered sensory processing issues. We addressed that issue, created structure, and gave him the tools to cope in class. His behavior transformed, and we got to experience an amazingly funny and high-spirited personality.

Changes like this could not have happened without guidance. By finding the bright light within and focusing on your child’s strengths, we can release their remarkableness. This is the approach I will help you take with your child.

What others say
about us

Our family was blessed to have Ms. Ebenstein teach my son in first grade and then again in third grade. My son had ADD and ODD. She saw in him the potential that other teachers overlooked. They saw him as a behavior issue. She saw him as a small person who was funny, creative, and intelligent. It is hard to put into words the positive impact she had on him and us as parents. We are forever grateful to have had her in our lives.

Our son was lucky to have had Gail as a teacher in Pre-1. He had just been diagnosed with ADHD and was struggling with all of the behavioral issues that come along with it. Gail was the very first teacher he’s ever had who he felt fully “got him” and understood what he was going through. She was incredibly understanding, loving and so supportive to our son that we could not have asked for a better guide for him at school. Gail’s desire for our son to overcome hurdles and achieve goals was so touching and so effective. When he had anxiety attacks, she was extremely patient and always knew the right way to help him and make him feel better… better than we as parents knew. She gave our son the lifelong tools to help him during the times he will need them most. As parents, she gave us guidance, advice, tips and support at times where we felt lost with no clue what to do and whom to turn to. We are forever thankful that we were lucky enough to have Gail as a teacher for our son and as a teacher for us parents as we navigated the uncertain and unpredictable waters of this diagnosis.

What Challenges Face
Parents Of An Atypical Child?

Raising a child with autism, ADHD or special needs requires considerable perseverance, a positive attitude, support and confidence. It takes a lot to cope with all the demands placed on you.

CHALLENGESAs a parent I have dealt with the challenges of a child with Asperger’s Syndrome. I have lived the journey and know what it can do to the family structure.

One of the biggest challenges is not having anyone with whom to share your deepest concerns. You may not be comfortable speaking to friends or family about your true feelings. Isolation can become your worst enemy. Confiding in someone you trust and can be honest with is crucial during these times.
